Croque-Monsieur

February 17, 2014 By Stephanie Day Leave a Comment

Croque-Monsieur

My husband and I are big sandwich people, especially when cheese is involved! We love having grilled cheese and soup for dinner this time of year. Although it is starting to get really warm here in AZ, we like to pretend it’s cold inside.

I had my first Croque-Monsieur about a year ago at a cafe for lunch one day and I couldn’t believe it took me so long to discover this amazing sandwich. A Croque-Monsieur is a French grilled cheese sandwich made with ham and Gruyere cheese, but my favorite part? The Béchamel sauce on top! It makes the sandwich so creamy! This is a sandwich that you can make for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Serve it next to a light salad or a bowl of soup and call it a day! It’s easy to make, but it looks so much fancier than your typical grilled cheese.

Ginger Pear Cream of Wheat

Ginger Pear Cream of Wheat

I’m always on the hunt for new breakfast ideas. Though I could eat a plain bow of cereal every day, sometimes I want something a little different. I’m typically an oatmeal kind-of-girl, but recently discovered how comforting a bowl of Cream of Wheat can be. In this month’s Cooking Light magazine, they shared lots of great shortcuts for meals and I found myself bookmarking practically all of them. I’m all bout shortcuts this month! They shared this great idea to kick up a regular bowl of Cream of Wheat. It couldn’t be easier to prepare. Just sliced pear tossed with some cinnamon and brown sugar and a crushed gingersnap and toasted walnuts on top.

This breakfast is so hearty and will warm you up on those cold mornings. Although it doesn’t have a ton of sugar, it’s just the right amount. The gingersnap cookie also adds a nice crunch and yes, I was tempted to add more like three cookies instead of one!

Pesto Pinwheels

Pesto Pinwheels

I don’t know about you guys, but the holiday season is not just about cookies for me. It’s also about lots of yummy appetizers! Puff pastry pinwheels are fun because you can fill them with so many different things, sweet and savory. These pesto pinwheels are really easy to make and you can use pre-made pesto if you want to save even more time. When it comes to hosting holiday parties, I am all about any shortcut I can take and still get a good result. And you can never go wrong with pesto! I kind of want to put it on everything and it pairs perfectly with buttery pastry dough. This little appetizer requires just a few ingredients and only takes about 20 minutes to prepare from start to finish!
