Halloween Bark

October 28, 2014 By Nina B Leave a Comment

halloweenbark

I am 26. My sister is four years old. And yet, we are a lot a like. For example, we definitely share a sweet tooth. When I saw the idea for a bark on a friend’s blog, I knew I would make it for her and send it as a Halloween treat with all her favorite candies inside of it. This bark is hearty stuff and then  I decided to add gummy worms–something she loves but rarely gets to eat because for some reason she likes them in ice cream which means a lot of mess for her parents to pick up (hey, I’m the sister. I get to do the fun stuff. Ha.)

As I added layers and layers of her favorite cookies and candies, I wondered if it would all work. But then I poured the white chocolate and somehow it held together to gummy worms, candy corn, reeses pieces, pretzels, oreos, and more. When I broke it into pieces, I really had to work at it. Today I am putting this in the mail to my sis who will go gaga over the idea of something sweet, especially something involving gummy worms.

I plan on making this again with Christmas but this time with her. This is a great recipe to make with kids as you layer the ingredients (before the melted chocolate is involved).

Halloween Bark

Ingredients

  • Chocolate Bark or Chocolate to Melt
  • Some type of hearty cookie like broken up oreo
  • And then anything you want: mine included pretzels, gummy worms, reeses pieces, candy corn and more. Pick your favorites.

Instructions

  1. Layer your cookie pieces first on a baking pan.
  2. Then layer everything else on top of it.
  3. Save a few pieces of something fun like candy corn for the top.
  4. Melt the bark following the directions.
  5. Sprinkle whatever you saved on top.
  6. Set the pan in the fridge until the bark is completely hardened.
  7. Break into pieces and enjoy.

Nina B

Nina grew up speaking and eating Italian in the Chicagoland area. She moved to San Francisco for two years and, knowing she was always meant to be a writer, finally decided to share some of that writing with the world through blogging. There you will find her chronicling her adventures and misadventures (and isn't there such loveliness in mistakes and learning and growing?). If you ever go shopping with her, you will often hear her say, "We could totally make that!" Now, she is back in Chicago, with a real kitchen to cook authentic Italian food and other creations and space to do-it-herself. She finds it best to do all these things–writing, cooking, crafting, reading, adventuring–while laughing which is her favorite thing to do.
