After being on a kick of fruit desserts lately, I knew it was about time to make a dessert my husband would love. Something rich and chocolatey but still light and refreshing. That’s when I came up with the idea for this nutella mousse. I wanted to call it a no-bake cheesecake but we decided since there’s no cream cheese, that might be misleading. But it’s just as good as any no-bake cheesecake.
Whatever you want to call it, it’s dang good, y’all. And as an added bonus, it’s so simple. I’m talking ten ingredients or less kind of simple. Oreos, butter, nutella, whipped cream, vanilla and chocolate chips for garnish (optional).
One of the best parts about this dish is you can make a large dish of it or small individual dessert dishes that are perfect for parties or showers. I used to think that there was a special set of recipes that were only “party foods” but I’ve realized more and more that the best recipes are ones that can be tweaked to accommodate various sets.
You could easily add more nutella to make this even more creamy and filled with hazelnut goodness. I liked this blend between the nutella and whipped cream. I usually don’t like whipped cream at all, but adding it to the nutella just makes this dessert light and airy.
Ingredients
- Crust
- 12 oreos, crushed (or buy an oreo pie crust and smash up)
- 2-3 tablespoons melted butter
- Filling
- 2/3 cup nutella
- 12 oz frozen whipped cream, thawed
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Melt butter and mix with oreo crumbs, add more butter if not solid enough, add more crumbs if crust looks too wet
- Press into serving dish(es)
- Use a mixer to blend cream cheese and nutella together
- Add vanilla
- Fold in whipped cream to nutella mixture until well blended
- Spoon into dishes
- Cover and refrigerate 1.5-2 hours before eating
- Sprinkle chopped chocolate chips on mousse and enjoy!
Are you a fruity dessert person or a chocolatey dessert person? I normally lean towards fruit desserts, but if I have enough desserts like this, I might have to switch teams!
