Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants

Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants | by The Crumby Cupcake via My Cooking Spot

Heaven help me, but I have a borderline crazy adoration for croissants. Those light, fluffy, uber-buttery pillows of perfection are great spread with jam for breakfast, or topped with meat and cheese for a delightful lunch.

I have absolutely zero problem just eating them. Plain. Hot out of the oven. Ripping apart their flaky layers and stuffing them in my mouth with wild abandon.

Yeah, I’m a carbaholic through and through. But, sometimes, I like to get fancy with my French delicacies, and when that happens, you can expect things like these Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants to come flying out of my kitchen. And the best part (aside from the taste)? You only need four ingredients to make these!!

So, we’ve covered that I’m crazy for croissants, correct? I’m also nuts about Nutella, which is only the most addictive spreadable nut butter ever invented. Honestly, sometimes I surprise myself when I find the jar open and the taste of chocolate-hazelnut goodness on my tongue. My favorite way to eat it is on apple slices, but I’m not shy about jamming a spoon in there and slowly savoring the stuff.

I may have a problem.

Another great pair: strawberries and Nutella. They are a match made in heaven, period. And rolling them up in a croissant and calling it breakfast is simply one of the best marriages in the food world!

Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants

Speaking of pairs and marriage, isn’t there some sort of Hallmark holiday coming up in a few weeks? The one where you’re supposed to go buy dozens of overpriced roses and crummy mass-produced cards and chalky chocolates, and battle your way through the throngs of people who think you only need to show the one you love how much they mean to you that one day of the year?

Yeah, Valentine’s Day, that’s it. Did you forget? Are you panicking now?

No way. I know you’re smarter than that. But I’ve got your solution right here.

Give your sweetie one of these and a cup of coffee (or a mimosa!) for breakfast. In my world, at least, there’s nothing sweeter than knowing the one you love woke up early enough to make you something special. They don’t have to know how easy they are!

(Better yet – make them again next month, and remind them that you love them on all the days that aren’t February 14th, too!)

Yield: 4 large croissants

Serving Size: 1 croissant

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 6-8 fresh strawberries
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 Tablespoons hazelnut spread

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Wash and slice strawberries. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, mix cream cheese and hazelnut spread together until well blended. Set aside.
  4. Unroll crescent rolls and separate into four groups of two.
  5. Taking two crescents triangles, lay them next to one another, slightly overlapping the sides, to form a larger triangle. Press the sides into one another to create a solid triangle.
  6. Starting at the wide end, spread 1/4 of the hazelnut cream on the croissant, covering about 1/3 of the dough.
  7. Lay sliced strawberries across the hazelnut cream lengthwise. Don't overfill with either, or you'll have a hard time rolling up the crescents.
  8. Fold the edges in over the strawberries at the wide end to close in the ends, and carefully roll the crescent. Bend and place on baking sheet with the pointed end on the bottom of the croissant.
  9. Repeat with remaining three dough groups, keeping at least 2 inches between croissants when placing them on the baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until croissants are golden brown (or darker, if you prefer!)
