Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cake

Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cake Recipe

I’ve been looking for the perfect cake to bring to dinner parties, and I think I may have found it. This cake is the perfect amount of delicious without being too sweet.

Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cake

The prep time is quick and fairly easy. It only takes about 10 minutes to whip up this easy batter.

When I tested this recipe, it took a lot longer to bake in my springform pan, so I would recommend making two layers and baking the batter in two 9 inch pans. That way you will be sure the cake will cook all the way through in less cooking time.

Make sure to let the cake cool completely (at least 2-3 hours) before frosting it. I used this simple Vanilla buttercream frosting recipe that tasted divine and then decorated the top (a little more messily than I had hoped) with some chocolate chips.

All in all, even though she turned out a little bit messier than I had hoped, the taste was exactly what I was going for. If you’re a chocolate chip cookie fan, I promise this will be your new favorite cake!

Ingredients

  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chopped regular sized chips)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. You'll need two 9 inch circular pans or one 9 inch spring form pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder and salt) in a large bowl until well blended.
  3. In a separate medium sized bowl, whisk together wet ingredients (milk, water, oil, vanilla, and eggs).
  4. Make a hole in the center of the dry ingredients and slowly pour the wet ingredients into the middle, whisking until well blended.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour batter into two pans.
  7. Bake 30-40 minutes until top is golden brown.
  8. You'll know the cake is ready if you can place a toothpick in the center and pull it out dry.
  9. Cool for at least an hour on a wire rack before removing from pans.
