I love spaghetti sauce. It stems from my childhood. My mother makes the best homemade spaghetti sauce ever. I don’t live in the same state as she does any longer, so I don’t get to enjoy her sauce very often. I have been looking for a sauce that can compare to hers. It is so good and so hard to replicate. I have tried.
I don’t have a lot of time to work on trying to perfect my mother’s recipe, but sometimes I just crave that sauce because I may be a little homesick.
I also have a husband who is not a big fan of spaghetti. However, he loves lasagna. But he is very specific about what he likes in his lasagna. It has to be a meat lasagna and can’t have ricotta. Well, there are not a lot of recipes out there with a recipe for lasagna that does not have ricotta cheese. So I have had to figure out something on my own to make him love it. Boy, did I succeed.
And it is thanks to the newest sauce from Ragu Homestyle sauces. Each sauce prepared to have a thick and hearty texture that hugs every noodle. This makes it perfect for my lasagna recipe that does not have ricotta. It helps to make my lasagna thick, and gooey with all the cheese and just flat out delicious!
I also love that Ragu does not use artificial flavors, artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup. This makes me feel good about what I am eating and serving my family.
Ragu Homestyle is their thickest and boldest sauce yet. It is build with a special blend of herbs to help layer and build the flavor. Here is all the different sauces Ragu has come out with.
- Homestyle Thick and Hearty Traditional Sauce
- Homestyle Thick and Hearty Meat Sauce
- Homestyle Thick and Hearty Four Cheese Sauce
- Homestyle Thick and Hearty Roasted Garlic Sauce
- Homestyle Thick and Hearty Mushroom Sauce
Here is my recipe for Ricotta free, hearty meat sauce lasagna.
Ingredients
- 1/2 of a (1-pound) package lasagna, uncooked
- 1 lb Italian sausage (I just used hot Jimmy Dean’s sausage)
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 (28 oz) jar Thick and Hearty Homestyle Ragu sauce
- 1 large ball fresh buffalo mozzarella.
- 3 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 375
- Saute the garlic with 1 tsp butter. Add the ground beef and sausage together and cook until browned. Warm the marinara on the stove in a large pot. Add the meat.
- Start building. Sauce in the pan, then noodles, sauce, six slices of buffalo mozzarella, then cover with shredded cheese. Build so it is three layers.
- Bake in the oven covered with tin foil for 25 min. Take cover off and bake another 20 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!
