Natasha Red here! Some of my favorite times during the day are sharing snacks with my daughter Reaghan. She usually wakes up from her nap a little hungry, and that’s typically the time of day I need a little snack to hold me over until dinner as well. I love to watch her reaction to new flavors and textures. She has such a little personality already and gives a big “MMMM” when she thinks something is delicious!
Sometimes we share a handful of fruit, or some carrots and hummus, but one of our favorite snacks to share is popcorn. Reaghan absolutely loves popcorn. I made this kettle corn into favors for her first birthday party and everyone loved them, especially her 😉 I don’t like giving Reaghan sugar, so I add that part after I serve a little bowl for her.
This popcorn is made at home, so you know it’s healthy and kid-friendly. I love playing around with different flavors but have been stuck on this combination for a while! I remember making cinnamon sugar toast with my cousins as a midnight snack when we were little. Combine that with popcorn and you’ve got a delicious new memory to share with your kids, family, and friends.
Do you or your kids have any favorite snacks? What popcorn flavors are your favorite?
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil or butter
- 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- a couple shakes of cinnamon
Instructions
- Melt coconut oil or butter in a large pot over medium-high heat.
- When the pot is very hot, pour in popcorn kernels and cover the pot with a lid.
- Shake the pot back and forth on the burner to avoid burning the kernels.
- Once you hear 1-2 seconds go by in between popping, you know you've popped all your kernels, so remove it from the heat.
- Pour popcorn into a large bowl and season with salt, sugar and cinnamon, stirring to coat every piece.
