Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants

Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants | by The Crumby Cupcake via My Cooking Spot

Heaven help me, but I have a borderline crazy adoration for croissants. Those light, fluffy, uber-buttery pillows of perfection are great spread with jam for breakfast, or topped with meat and cheese for a delightful lunch.

I have absolutely zero problem just eating them. Plain. Hot out of the oven. Ripping apart their flaky layers and stuffing them in my mouth with wild abandon.

Yeah, I’m a carbaholic through and through. But, sometimes, I like to get fancy with my French delicacies, and when that happens, you can expect things like these Strawberry Hazelnut Cream Croissants to come flying out of my kitchen. And the best part (aside from the taste)? You only need four ingredients to make these!! [Read more…]

Pea Soup {Slow-Cooker}

peasoup

I never thought to order Pea Soup at a restaurant, let alone make it, because..I don’t like peas. But I found myself in San Francisco, across the country from my friends and family and everything I knew, and a new friend suggested I try her recipe. She swore that no one had ever hated it before. So since adventures, culinary or otherwise, require an open mind, I made her recipe.

It was beyond easy in my crockpot in my studio apartment. When I came home to that lovely aroma, I was officially hooked on pea soup. I made it and freeze it and will love it forever.

This also proves my family adage: don’t eat with your eyes.

Thank goodness for my friends. Really and truly, I get so much inspiration for my blog Marcella Rose’s from the fantastic meals and moments I spend with my girlfriends. It’s been hard for me since I moved away from New York and the strong group of fabulous women that I was lucky enough to call my friends.

The older I get the harder, it is to find true friends. I am a bit of a quirky girl so for me that instant shock of connection when I meet, as Anne of Green Gables would say a, “Bosom Buddy” or a “Kindred Spirit”, is a rare thing. I have been on the search since I arrived in Southern Oregon and then it happened. I found her, a girl with style, class, and she can cook too! It’s like magic to find someone who is not only hilarious, but also has similar interests.

Parmesan Pretzel Bites

Parmesan Pretzel Bites // @speckledpalate for @mycookingspot

I have a thing for pretzels.

It’s been a part of my life since I was a kid. We’d visit my family in Pennsylvania once a year, and when there, we always inevitably ended up at the mall, which prominently featured an Auntie Annie’s, my favorite mall food snack.

Back then, we didn’t have an Auntie Annie’s in Memphis, so it was a special treat.

And my pretzel obsession grew. I’m partial to their Cinnamon-Sugar Pretzels, though I love a good savory pretzel every once in a while, too. [Read more…]
